With deep regret we inform that our senior most Governing Council Member Mr NN Goel passed away on 12^th January 2012. Mr Goel had been associated with Raphael since its inception and joined the Governing Council on 18^th October 1976.

DISABLED EMPLOYEES OF RAPHAEL FELICIATED

On the occasion of World Disability Day on 3^rd of December 2011, three of our employees with disability namely Gurinder Kaur, an Office Assistance, Geeta, a resident of Raphael working as an Office Assistant and Bharat another resident working as an Office Peon were honoured by the Government of Uttarakhand. A Gurinder is disabled below the waist and is wheel chair bound. Geeta also suffers from physical disability and uses crutches fro movement whereas Bharat has cerebral palsy and is a very efficient office peon. Honorable Mr Balwant Singh, Minister Social Welfare presented an award to each of the employees in recognisation of their sincere and dedicated service.

Badhte Kadam – III

Badhte Kadam-III was flagged off from Raphael amidst much fanfare on the 17^th of Nov 2011. This year marks the third year of Badhte Kadam. The programme was designed to raise awareness about the disability sector. The Chief Guest for the occasion was Mr S.Raju, Principal Secretary Social Welfare, Government of Uttarakhand. The ceremony included a cultural programme put up by special children form Raphael and a few other organizations working in the field of disability. The Chief Guest appreciated the efforts of Raphael, which has been working in the field of disability for last 53 years with the mission of ‘Providing Relief to the suffering’.

The volunteers selected far conducting the awareness camp in various districts disseminated information on disability through films, skits and success stories.

On 21^st October, 2011 an interactive session was held in Ava Vihar with all the parents. The Chairman addressed the parents and informed them about the services being provided at Raphael. Approximately 90 parents attended the session. Feedback from the parents has been very encouraging. It was decided that a parents training programme be organized so as to help the parents manage their special children in a better manner. The first such parent training programme is scheduled for 23^rd December 2011.

264 Officer trainees of the 86th Foundation Course from the Lal Bahadur Shastri Academy in Mussorie visited Raphael on the 15th and 16th of September 2011 to familiarize themselves with different aspects of disability and their management related to care, education, training and rehabilitation. The officer trainees were appreciative of the manner in which Raphael was fulfilling its objective to provide relief to the suffering.

Master Training Workshop on Community Based Rehabilitation

A two days Masters Training Workshop for Master trainees on Community Based Rehabilitation (CBR) was conducted at Raphael on 29th and 30th August 2011. The resource persons were Mr. Joshi, Programme Manager CBR and Mental Health, Blind Peoples Association (BPA), Ahmedabad and Ravindran, trainer CBR, Rehabilitation Council of India, Zonal Coordination Committee, North Zone, Ludhiana.

All the local NGOs working in the field of disability had sent their representatives and there were over 30 participants. The Master Trainers will now continue to train other members of their organizations in CBR, while Raphael will work as the channelizing agency.

Max India Foundation-Raphael Conducts Immunization Camp At Mehuwala

Raphael in cooperation with MAX India Foundation conducted an immunization camp at Mehuwala Primary Health Centre against Hepatitis B for children upto the age group of 12 years. Earlier, the first and the second doze had been administered to these children in February and March 2011. The third and final doze of immunization was carried out by the Medical Team of Raphael.

APRIL 2011
Raphael’s term as SNAC extended till 2013.
3 children from CBR programme participated in Special Olympics for the first time.

MAY 2011
A two day Workshop for our staff was conducted by Ms. Pinki Mohapatra on Sensory Integration in May 2011.

JUNE 2011
Badhte Kadam-III ( A Nationwide Awareness Programme) is planned to be conducted in Nov- Dec 2011.
A total of 5 one day workshops on screenings and Identification of Learning Difficulties conducted for Govt. Resource Teachers (under SSA Scheme) at SIEMAT.

JULY 2011
25 students joined the 2 yr. Diploma in Special Education Programme which commenced in July 2011.
Workshop on Training and Assessment of Disabilities for 22 Resource teachers of Dehra Dun district, conducted at Raphael.
Our faculty conducted training for parents receiving home based programme under SSA schemes on ADLs and Rights in July 2011.
