Community Based Rehabilitation
The objective of this programme is to provide services to children with special needs in the villages away from the city centre. Presently a contiguous area encompassing 32 villages is covered with assistance to children to attend ‘anganwadis’ or primary schools.
Home based programmes as also services by both Physiotherapist and Speech Therapist are provided. Presently, three resource teachers supervise this programme.
The programme was started in 2002 and comprehensively covers 32 villages, along the Shimla-Bypass road and Sahaspur-Chakrata road; approximately 257 children have been identified and currently about 135 are under this programme.
Some of them attend the anganwadis, and primary schools while some receive home- based programmes. Besides the Resource Teachers, there is a supervisor who supervises this programme.
Once this programme is fully established and stabilized, the outreach programme will move to another area. Indeed initial surveys have already commenced in this new area.
CBR Programme (Early Intervention) is partially aided by REGE Foundation, UK
